The Setup

Both phones were tested side-by-side in identical lighting conditions:

  • Daylight outdoor (sunny, overcast, golden hour)
  • Indoor (studio, window light, artificial)
  • Low light / night mode
  • Action / sport photography
  • Portrait / bokeh

We used automatic modes exclusively — this is a real-world, not lab, test.

Daylight Photography

Winner: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

Samsung’s 200MP primary sensor captures extraordinary detail when zoomed in. Sharpness on foliage, architecture, and textured surfaces is ahead of Apple in ideal light. Colors, however, tend to punch slightly oversaturated — vibrant but not always accurate.

iPhone 16 Pro renders more natural skin tones and more film-like color science. Purists will prefer Apple’s output. Instagrammers will prefer Samsung’s.

Portrait Mode

Winner: iPhone 16 Pro

The edge separation on the iPhone 16 Pro is more natural. Apple’s neural engine processes depth data with noticeable superior hair rendering. Samsung’s portrait photos look great on a phone screen but fall apart on large displays.

Zoom Photography

100xCD+

Samsung’s 100x Space Zoom is still a party trick but S25 Ultra’s 10x and 30x are genuinely ahead. For travel photographers, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is the better zoom device.

Night Photography

Winner: iPhone 16 Pro (barely)

Night mode on both phones is exceptional. iPhone 16 Pro: brighter, more accurate, less artificial. Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: more aggressive noise reduction, sometimes losing shadow detail.

Video

Winner: iPhone 16 Pro (significantly)

This isn’t close. Apple’s 4K 120fps Dolby Vision with log profiles, Cinematic mode, and spatial video is a filmmaking toolkit. Samsung’s video output is very good but Apple’s is broadcast-quality.

Final Verdict

For photography: Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra — the zoom is unmatched, daylight detail is phenomenal.

For video and color science: iPhone 16 Pro — there’s nothing better for mobile filmmaking.

For most people: iPhone 16 Pro, because the combination of exceptional photography + best-in-class video tips the scales.
